About Nottingham

Nottingham history can be seen all over the city from the beautiful architecture which stands as a testament to the talented craftsmen who once lived and worked in the city. As well as the Old Market Square, which is the biggest Market Square in England at 22,000 square meters, there are lots of other things to do in Nottingham and some great places to visit.

For people wishing to get a taste of the history of Nottingham, there are two castles to visit: Nottingham Castle, which was commissioned in the 17th Century by the Duke of Newcastle; and the magnificent Newmark Castle which is still the most significant landmark in Nottingham history.

Things to do in Nottingham

There is a lot more to Nottingham if learning Nottingham history isn't your thing. There are plenty of fun things to do when you're in and about Nottingham - not least there's shopping! With two main shopping centres (Victoria Centre and Westfield Broadmarsh) as well as smaller more unique shopping experiences to be had at the The Exchange Arcade, the Flying Horse Walk (once a famous hotel) and new developments in Trinity Square and The Pod.

There are plenty of other things to do in Nottingham too, including trips to the Nottingham Playhouse and the Theatre Royal, cricket to watch across the river or a trip to Nottingham's Angel Row Gallery. And let's not forget the nightlife!

Castle Wharf is a recent development that has modernised the city. Contemporary warehouses have been turned in stylish clubs and bars and a brief walk through Old Market Square should explain why Nottingham has such a brilliant reputation for clubbing
