22/11/2008 - THE GREAT NOTTINGHAM WORLD FOOD TOUR: CS DOES LATIN AMERICA

As we retreat into the longer, darker nights, and seek the cosiness of some comforting food amidst a warm welcoming ambience, why not join CitySocialising's Great Nottingham World Food Tour on the next leg of its adventure? It's the perfect time to really begin and explore the culinary delights that our great little city has to offer, and take part in more CitySocialising nights out.
The idea for The Great Nottingham World Food Tour is to take full advantage of our city's mix of great ethnic cuisine and head out to a number of the top restaurants and partake in the food they serve from all over the globe, visiting Japanese, French, Spanish, Brazilian, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Lebanese and as many other outposts of this planet that we can find to let our tastebuds explore!
It may be foods you know, it may be foods that you have been wanting to try and have never had the opportunity, the only requirement is a passion for food, an inquisitive nature and a huge desire to have a great time!
Our next stop on the World Food Tour is Latin America as we visit the Las Iguanas restaurant, in the Chapel Quarter area of Nottingham - which promises to inject some Latin sunshine into a dark Saturday night. Where flavours are as loud and proud as Joaquin Cortez’s Cuban heels, as intense as Antonio Banderas' gaze and as brazenly sumptuous as J-Lo’s curves!
This is Latin American dining at its best, and the food served here can trace its roots back to the 16th Century, a fusion of native Latin American, Indian, Spanish, Portuguese and African influences.
From the vibrant hues of the bar and dining rooms, the intoxicating Latin sounds from the speakers, to the rich flavours of the southern hemisphere, Las Iguanas is a fun escape to Brazil and beyond.
The décor features (sustainable) wood mosaic tabletops and funky artifacts. The authentic latino cuisine features fresh ingredients transformed into regional specialties from familiar tapas to treats your taste buds are yet to discover.
For starters (£2.00 - £5.50) you could try their Peri-peri (crisp cassava coated chicken with Brazilian-style hot garlic, chilli & lemon sauce) or a vegetarian option such as Quesadilla (char-grilled tortilla filled with portobello mushroom & melted brie, with homemade tomato, garlic & coriander salsa).
For main course (£7.90 - £14.50), you could easily be tempted by their signature dish, Xinxim - a great example of their pan-continental fusion - a Brazilian chicken recipe with a creamy crayfish and peanut sauce, rice, fine beans and sweet plantain. Or try one of their Fillet Steaks infused with garlic & paprika, or Fajitas - hot sizzling platters with onions & bell peppers cooked in their unique spice blend, served with homemade salsa, pickled Jalapeños, soured cream, guacamole & warm tortillas.
Or we could go for the pocket-friendly Fiesta Party Menus available for groups of 6 or more!
And after eating we can hit the bar for some post dinner indulgence and sample the world's best Caipirinhas cocktails, made from own-label cachaca, brewed from XXXXX's own Brazilian cane fields.
We'll all be meeting up beforehand for a pre-dinner drink or two at nearby bar XXXXX (full details available to view upon booking) where one of our hosts will be at a reserved table when you arrive to welcome you and settle you in to the evening.
We'll have an hour to chat, relax and socialise together before heading over to Las Iguanas for dinner at 8.30pm.
All personal food and drinks to be payable by you (in cash) on the night, plus relevant service charge.
Maximum 16 places available. Add no-reply@citysocialising.com to ensure you receive our reminder email.

Priding themselves on picking from the cream of the stand up comedy circuit, this Thursday's Funhouse will see us being entertained by the upbeat compere Spiky Mike with his special guest- Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Xmas Show (created by Tom Binns) who will also be joined by the Paul Kerensa, Sal Stevens and Rex Purnell.

Seedy, stupid Ivan performs with pace and panache, playing the least suitable records possible for the listeners to his Disease Hour, and aided by just enough structure and surprises to ensure that he doesn’t fade out before his hour is up.
And Cornishman Paul Kerensa has established himself as one of British comedy's leading young talents, and in just a few short years he has become a regular at the UK's biggest venues, and a popular and reliable headline act, winning ITV's 'Take The Mike' stand-up competition in 2002. He is also a talented sit-com and sketch-show writer including Dead-Ringers.
We'll all be meeting up first at XXXXX (full details available to view upon booking) for a pre-show drink or two and a chance to grab a bite to eat (optional).

Scruffy's is an Irish themed pub on the outskirts of the Park area in Nottingham. Known for its rustic and rugged decor which almost has a 'cellar' feel to it, Scruffy's embodies the idea of a comfortable environment, warm atmosphere and sociable service. The candle-lit ambience is offset with the odd wooden chairs and the innovative wall decorations.
The menu here borrows from everywhere and caters for all tastes - from 'comfort-food' dishes such as designer Bangers & Mash, BBQ Babyback Ribs, Stir-frys, Pan-seared duck breast and the legendary Scruffy Burger to Oven baked sea-bass and Caesar salad.
Whatever you order, it will come in monster-sized portions and it's certainly good value for money, with Starters ranging from £3.50 - £4.75, and mains from just £5.95 - 13.95.

06/12/2008 - SATURDAY NIGHT FESTIVE DRINKS & DANCING

If you're up for a Saturday night of CitySocialising, drinks and dancing the night away in one of Nottingham’s ‘uber’ clubs, with music to suit everyone, then join us for a night of festive fun at Oceana.
Oceana offers 2 separate dance-floors and 5 bars. The largest dance-floor is in the Venetian Ballroom with a twenty foot high chandelier as its main focal point. This grandeur is complemented and enhanced by state-of-the-art sound and light technology to provide us with a unique dance experience – playing house music, chart, dance and R&B.
Below this is the New York Disco which has a Saturday Night Fever dance floor with flashing glass panels. It really is an authentic recreation of a 70s disco with mirror wall, mirror balls and neon infinity mirrors, where we can strut our stuff and get lost in music to classic disco numbers from the 70s, 80s and anything contemporarily funky.
The 5 bars have been designed with worldwide destinations in mind - from the Sydney Harbourside to Parisian Boudoir and Ski lodge Aspen, a quieter and chilled out area to escape the crowds.
With its party atmosphere and good tunes all topped off with fantastic drinks and fun company it’s set to be a top Friday night out!
We will be meeting up for some pre-club drinks at nearby bar XXXXX (full details available to view upon booking) where one of our hosts will be expecting you when you arrive to welcome you and settle you in to the night.
We'll have a couple of hours here to relax, chat, socialise and have fun getting to know everyone before heading over to Oceana at around 10.30pm.
Entry to Oceana is £6 (£3 NUS). Open till 3am.
